About Solar power generation wiring is too thick
One online calculator says 4AWG while another says 8AWG. The installer put in 6AWG and said it should more more than plenty thick. Circuit voltage is 240v and the wire run from the service panel, though the disconnect, through the meter, to the inverter is 21 ft in total length.

Improper wire sizing refers to using wires that are either too thin or too thick for the current they need to carry. There are two main concerns with improper wire sizing: Undersized wires: These are wires with a gauge (thickness) too small for the current running through them.
The solar panel wire size, normally 10 gauge (3mm) is fine for this. Your array may be too big for the inverter, three strings may be the limit. This weird array geometry maximizes the exposure of each string to extend power generation as early and late as possible.
Using a 4AWG wire sounds great on paper until you realize the MC4 connectors or terminals in your SCC won't take thicker than a 10AWG and you're out the cost of wire AND having to re-run everything. Reactions: labeeman.
Picture is of 8awg wire that I was planning to use to hook up the 24/12 step down converter to the 12v fuse block and bus bar. I'm concerned that the individual strands are too thick. Will using this wire be an issue? Thanks for you help!
